I am an attorney, tenant
advocate and counsel to the Queens League of United Tenants.
On the weekend AM of October 20th to the 22nd, 2006, on page 4,
there is an article, whose headline is, “Homes for the Middle Class”.
If the article is accurate to
the effect that you are seeking to build these homes in Queens County
for families earning between $60,000 and $150,000 a year, what you
would be sanctioning could be viewed as a disgrace.
I am certain that your
administration is aware of the findings of the recent Furman Report
put out by New York University. That report clearly shows that
affordable housing has to be built throughout the City of New York,
and especially in Queens County, for those who need affordable housing
and will never see an income anywhere near $60.000.
Finally, if this article is
accurate, it would appear that the 80/20 formula has been totally
rejected by your administration at least as to this project.
We need affordable housing for
families that are earning less than $20,000 in the City and
especially, in Queens County.
I thank you for your kind
attention and hope that you will do something about this in terms of
bringing practical, affordable housing to this City.
Very truly yours,
Robert A. Katz
